Seven new courses spanning across the offshore oil and gas, offshore wind and maritime sectors are being offered at the Newcastle-based Maersk Training.

Key among them is STCW Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting course, which is mandatory for those wishing to work across offshore and maritime divisions.

It takes three days to complete and prepares trainees with all the safety skills and knowledge required to work on-board a Merchant Navy vessel.

Maersk Training will also be the only training company in the UK offering wind energy professionals the opportunity to study Blade Inspection and Repair (level 1), a specialist four day course approved by classification society, Germanischer Lloyd.

The courses have been developed as a result of rapid growth in the energy sector and the raising of industry qualification requirements at the 2010 STCW Manila conference.

Senior marine instructor at Maersk Training, Anthony Greener, said: “The new courses not only complement our current syllabus they give us a real edge over our competition as we look to build upon the success we’ve enjoyed across all three divisions this year.”
