A mill which produces toilet tissue is planting 8,000 native saplings to create a new community woodland.
The new plantation at Stella Hall in Blaydon, Gateshead, will be called Mary’s Wood.
The SCA Prudhoe mill operation will estabish a vital link between two established woodlands close to Path Head Mill in Stella Hall to improve the movement of wildlife in the area by providing additional cover and food sources.
The company has joined forces with Gateshead Council and the urban tree planting charity Trees for Cities to host an official launch today.
This project complements the company’s commitment to replace three trees for each one used in the manufacturing process of its Velvet brand.
To date SCA has planted thousands of trees in urban areas across the UK through its long-term partnership with Trees for Cities.
