North East software giant Sage has partnered with Europe’s first £1m tech accelerator, Ignite100, to support a new co-working and event space that will be home to more than 150 founders, developers and designers working in the sector.

The 10,000 sq ft Campus North, based at Carliol Square, Newcastle, was created after Ignite – an initiative that helps start-ups through seed funding, mentoring and the chance to pitch for future investment – outgrew its original site after three years.

As well as providing a £10,000 cash injection, Sage will offer guidance for Ignite100 teams and Campus North residents. This includes providing business mentors, code club developers, classes in coding for schoolchildren, and masterclasses and workshops on everything from web development to cloud hosting.

Co-founder and director of Ignite100, Paul Smith, said: “I’m delighted that Sage is now leading the way by working with Campus North to support early-stage tech start-ups. A successful tech cluster can demonstrate success to the outside and support itself from within, and Sage certainly embodies those principals. Sage has inspired plenty of entrepreneurs in the past.

Now that it is actively supporting technology businesses in Newcastle through community support and mentoring, it will continue to do so in the future.”
