Housing Provider Riverside has donated £500 of funding to Gateshead Foodbank.

The facility, which relies on fundraising to cover basic costs, provides emergency food for local people in crisis and recently received help from Riverside staff, who signed up as volunteers.

Since its establishment in 2012, it has received over 49 tonnes of food donations, used to feed over 3000 people within Gateshead.

According to recent data, over 50 per cent of UK adults are struggling to keep up with bills and debt repayments.

Over 200,000 people have received three days’ emergency food from a foodbank since April.

Claire O’Shea, one of Riverside’s volunteers, said: “With increasing numbers of people requiring the help of foodbanks, this is a great opportunity to give something back.”
