R&B Group catches the eye of the judges

Newcastle-based events production and creative design company R&B Group has achieved national recognition for its work in making this year’s North East Business Awards a striking success

The company, which also has an office in Yorkshire, used state-of-the-art projection mapping technology to put on an eye-catching display at the final, held in April, at Hardwick Hall, Sedgefield.

Now, it has been shortlisted alongside the likes of Panasonic and Creative Technology, which worked on the audiovisual aspects of the London 2012 Olympics, in the live event of the year category of the AV Awards 2013, considered by many to be the biggest night in the UK AV calendar.

The business awards are run annually by The Journal and Teesside’s Evening Gazette.

When first approached by ncjMedia, R&B was asked to provide a new and fresh look for the event, improving on what had gone before.

The display had to wow the audience, incorporate event branding and fall in line the usual budget.

R&B’s solution was to offer indoor projection mapping technology that would allow a virtual set to be brought to life via the use of projection, set and lighting simultaneously.

With added sound effects and music, it envisaged a spectacular and immersive experience, sure to impress.

Animators used the event’s website branding to produce their designs and, after the planning stage, the creative team used visualisation software to produce designs for a 3D model.

This was then used as a template for projection testing before graphic content created, story boards written and media generated.

To ensure that the brand remained strong, it was carried through in the set design with the construction of a 3D triangle.

R&B project manager, Paul Borthwick, said: “Our client was really excited about the use of the new technology and the impact it would have on their event.

“It can be hard to visualise what the end product will look like, so we were thrilled that there was such a level of trust on their part.

“Projection mapping allows your project or message to reach out to your audience and this was evident in the positive feedback the client received from their audience and sponsors.”

Head of regional events for ncjMedia Sue Coulson said: “I am absolutely delighted R&B Group have made it through to the final and so excited for them that it’s one of our North East Business awards that has got them through.”

The AV Awards winners will be announced at a ceremony in the London Hilton on October 11.
