A FAMILY-RUN business that produces desserts with a quirky, American twist is to open its second Northumberland store early next year.

The Pudding Parlour, run by brother and sister Kristy Giblin and Greg Small, was launched in 2013 at Haugh Lane Industrial Estate in Hexham.

Since then, the pair have opened a concession in the Fenwick’s Food Hall in Newcastle and now have their sights set on a shop in Sanderson Arcade, Morpeth, due to open in February 2015.

Over the next few weeks, they will be transforming the former Sky TV unit in the piazza area at shopping mall into a new dessert boutique.

Mrs Giblin said: “The business has really grown and taken off and people seem to love what we make; we’re always coming up with new ideas and adding to our range.

“We have been looking for another store for some time and Sanderson Arcade is a fantastic location for us. We’ve got some really exciting ideas for how the store will look and we can’t wait to open up in Morpeth.”

The Pudding Parlour was born out of a love of indulgent American style desserts, including the likes of Cookie Dough Pie, Mississippi Mud Pie and the imaginatively named Caramel Snickerdoodles.

Mrs Giblin started the business through baking for family and friends, developing a reputation for innovative recipes that were not available anywhere else.

After Mr Small got involved, the pair took the business from their homes in Stocksfield to its first shop in Hexham.

In the summer, then, they branched out to Fenwick, all while continuing to supply a number of pubs and restaurants across the North East, helping them build a loyal following.

Centre Manager at Sanderson Arcade, Medi Parry, said: “The Pudding Parlour is something really different for our shoppers - the cakes and desserts look and taste delicious.

“The new store will be a fantastic addition to the Arcade.

“We’re looking forward to the opening and to welcoming Kristy, Greg and the team to the Arcade.”

The Pudding Parlour is now recruiting staff for the new store. For more information, email enquiries@thepuddingparlour.com.
