A Teesside-based process sector cluster is among the best in Europe and the first in the UK to receive the Gold Label from a top Euro body.

NEPIC - the North East Process Industry Cluster - was given the award from the European Secretariat for Cluster Analysis on the same day as it celebrated its 11th birthday.

The scheme acknowledges cluster organisations that demonstrate highly sophisticated management and are committed to further improving their organisational structures and routines.

Wilton-based NEPIC, which has represented more than 600 chemical-processing companies and their supply chain, underwent an intensive audit in fields such as strategy, structure, recognition, service offers and results.

The objective of the scheme is not only to identify the best cluster management organisations in Europe, but also support the cluster management organisations with advice on how to further improve.

Dr Stan Higgins, NEPIC CEO, said: “A Cluster cannot work without its members embracing the principles of working together to increase the profile of the sector in the region, improving the capability of the sector – as well as identifying new business opportunities for members.”
