Pet supplies retailer Pets at Home is investing more than £405,000 in a new store opening in County Durham, creating 11 jobs.

The new store opens in Consett on March 27, taking the portfolio to 375 stores. The company received more than 400 application for the 11 jobs that will be based at Hermiston Retail Park.

Area manager Andrea Bruce, said: “There was a strong demand from Consett pet owners for Pets at Home to come to town, and we’re very pleased to have been able to grant them their wish.

“Pets at Home is committed to recruiting from the local area and I’m pleased we’ve found a team of talented individuals in Consett. They’re all extremely passionate about pets and can’t wait to get started.”

The firm, founded in 1991, now has 6,000 employees and won The Sunday Times Top 25 Best Big Companies to Work For 2013.
