Defra Secretary Owen Paterson, has been confirmed as the keynote speaker for this year’s Northern Farming Conference at Hexham.
He will head the-line up of speakers at this year’s conference, which takes place on Wednesday, November 12, at Hexham Auction Mart.
Conference chairman Andrew Robinson said: “Attracting the Secretary of State is a great start for the conference and underlines how it is now firmly established as a significant event in the national farming calendar.”
Now in its fifth year, the theme for this year’s Northern Farming Conference is Which Way Forward? and aims to give farmers the chance to consider how best to progress their businesses over the next few years.
Mr Robinson added: “The agreement of a new Common Agricultural Policy brings with it a range of uncertainties for farmers and land managers, not least of which being the renewed focus on environmental schemes.
“Factors such as advances in technology and the increasingly volatile weather are also affecting farm businesses and will all be covered with a strong emphasis on practical support and advice.”
The full line-up of speakers will be announced later this year but will, as before, be a mix of industry experts and forward thinking farmers.
The Northern Farming Conference is a joint venture between the CLA, Strutt & Parker, Bond Dickinson, Armstrong Watson, Catchment Sensitive Farming and Gibson & Co Solicitors.
