Parsons Containers achieves record growth to top £2m in sales

Bespoke orders for the Sedgefield firm's containers are also on the rise, with some being used in creative ways in architecture and building design

Sales beyond the North East have helped storage specialists Parsons Containers grow revenues by more than 43% to £2m.

Based in Sedgefield, the shipping container and self storage businesses, was founded 15 years ago by Ean Parsons, who has been working in the container industry for more than three decades.

The firm has two main divisions – the first which hires and sells containers in the North East and nationally and the second which offers self storage under the brand of U Hold The Key, operating on eight sites in the region and one in Grantham.

The company currently has more 1,000 containers, with about 60% used by the general public and 40% by businesses.

A third division, called Container Container, has grown year on year since it was created in 2007 to sell containers via the internet, and has now given Parsons Containers a significant national presence.

Last year, sales from outside the North East outstripped homegrown turnover, and container hires doubled during the year.

Meanwhile, container sales have now more than doubled during the last 24 months.

The growth follows a renewed focus within the firm on building bespoke products for customers in a range of sectors, including off-shore, power generation and farming.

The bespoke approach has also capitalised on a growing trend for shipping containers to be used in more creative ways, such as in architecture and building design.

Ean Parsons, who started his career in the merchant navy, said: “Parsons Containers has been a strong and successful brand in the North East for several years, but we have seen excellent growth recently.

“Because we apply a bespoke approach to every container project that we build, that has allowed us to adapt our products for a really diverse range of customers, from local government, schools and sports clubs, to offshore, farming and even retail.

“Each design is unique and it’s our really experienced team that makes sure we meet every challenge that we are set.

“Underpinning the business is continued growth in both the sale of standard containers and in container hire for self storage.

“Our online sales arm, Container Container, has helped deliver business throughout the UK, while U Hold The Key is one of the best known self storage brands around.
