Contract packing firm Assembly and Packaging Services (APS) has installed a temperature-controlled warehouse at its Blyth site as part of plans to maximise new opportunities for the business.
The firm has invested more than £40,000 on building improvements for new and existing clients, including a 5,500 sq ft temperature-controlled zone suitable for housing various products including pharmaceuticals, beverages, liquids and baby care products.
APS, which also has a site in Derby, is one of the UK’s leading contract packing companies and has worked with blue chip clients including the Body Shop, Coca-Cola, P&G, Boots and Nike.
Warehouse racking has been closed off with thermal insulation panels and plasterboard cladding, with heavy-duty PVC strip curtains suspended at all entry points – all maximising heat retention from a bank of newly-installed heaters.
A series of monitors and probes detect and manage the ambient surrounding air temperature and an integrated audio/visual alarm system warns of any changes.
Where the site is unoccupied the alarm is also relayed via SMS messaging to designated team members for response.
Chris Turner, the commercial manager at APS, said: “We are approaching the start of anew contract with a multi-national producer of healthcare products and are in talks with a number of other firms about their fulfilment needs.
“This warehouse is vital to those new opportunities and will really open up new markets for APS.
“Among the many other fast-moving consumer goods industries we work in, confectionery is one of our key target areas so we are looking forward to opening doors there.”
The firm has worked with high-street brands such as Duracell, Pampers, Persil, Pantene, Walkers and Tetley. APS offers a full service package as well as specialising in gift assembly, pick and pack,sub-assembly, labelling, collation, flowrap, blister packing, and filling.
