North East civil engineering business, the Owen Pugh Group, has invested over £100,000 in upgrading its laboratory facilities.

The firm has moved and extended its on-site materials testing lab at the Marsden Quarry and purchased new equipment, removing the need for subcontracting in some areas.

The move coincides with the expansion of Owen Pugh GDC, which relocated into a new depot in Gateshead in January.

Chairman John Dickson said the company had invested heavily to help it fulfil its growth plans.

He added: “The expansion at our laboratory and the addition of new materials testing capabilities will ensure that we are able to provide a full in-house service to our clients and it will mean that we’re well positioned to market these services to external businesses.”
