Oil rig selfies: Behind the scenes of oil rig worker life

Look at these photos and discover what life is like on the rig for yourself

The North East has had a history of supplying oil workers to rigs all over the world, yet the remoteness of the work and the resultant communications difficulties mean that relatively few of us understand what it’s like out on a rig.

These photos, sent in by Washington-based Oil Consultants Ltd, allow everyone else a rare glimpse into life on rigs and oil fields. Taken across five different continents, they depict sandstorms and stunning sunsets, towering machinery and workers going about life in some of the most isolated workplaces in the world.
