Nominations are once again being sought for an award that recognises high achievers and exemplary role models within the dairy industry.

The John Dennison Lifetime Achievement Award is returning to Carlisle’s Borderway UK Dairy Expo for the third year running.

Created in memory of the industry contribution made by Cumbrian dairy farmer and highly regarded breeder John Dennison, the accolade is given to farmers judged to possess the perfect combination of ability, sportsmanship, integrity and character within the dairy industry.

The winner will be named at the expo on March 7, 2015.

Glynn Lucas at Harrison and Hetherington, which operates Carlisle’s Borderway Mart, said: “This award really is a unique award for UK Dairy Industry. It recognises people who shine and who have put their lifetime’s work into the industry, just like John Dennison, who it honours.”

The winner of the inaugural John Dennison Lifetime Achievement Award was Mike Miller of Shanael Holsteins, near Evesham in Worcestershire.

This year, the award went to John Gribbon, a key figure in the Holstein success story throughout the UK.

Mr Gribbon, a noted UK and international figure who is regularly asked to judge at the most prestigious shows. said: “It was a real honour to receive an award which is a tribute to a true UK dairy legend.

“It meant all the more as it was testament to my involvement with the Holstein Breed and in the UK dairy industry as a whole.”

The 4th Borderway UK Dairy Expo will be held at the Borderway Exhibition Centre in Carlisle on Saturday, March 7, 2015.

A showcase for the UK dairy cattle industry, the event includes Champion Cattle classes, the International Dairy Youth Championships and a trade exhibition.

In addition, Total Dairy will be teaming up with the expo this year, presenting a dedicated dairy seminar on the afternoon of March 6, at Carlisle Race Course.

Anyone wishing to forward a nomination for the John Dennison Lifetime Achievement Award should send a brief resumé on the nominee by February 2 to: The John Dennison Lifetime Achievement Award, Harrison & Hetherington Ltd, Borderway Mart, Rosehill, Carlisle, CA1 2RS.
