A multi-million pound hotel in the heart of a Newcastle city centre regeneration project is set to open within two months, creating 60 jobs.
The 160-room Hampton by Hilton complex is being built opposite Newcastle Central Station, which is itself currently undergoing a multi-million pound makeover, and bookings have already been made by visitors from its official opening date in April.
Work on the hotel, based in eight-storey Baron House, is now nearing completion and an artist’s impression has been published to reveal how the building will look when completed.
The project has been carried out by Killingworth-based Metnor Construction, which were also involved in the Sleeperz Hotel development on Westgate Road, for which it won the prestigious RIBA Design award, the Hotel du Vin on Byker Road and Matfen Hall.
Paolo Franchi, general manager, said: “We’re just weeks away from the opening of this landmark hotel, located on Neville Street in Newcastle.
“The team has led a multi-million pound makeover of the former Baron House building and we are proud to be a part of the revitalisation of Newcastle’s Central Station area, which welcomes thousands of people into the city every day.
“We are looking forward to welcoming the first hotel guests in April and reservations are already being taken from both business and leisure travellers.”
The hotel is part of Hilton Worldwide’s UK portfolio and is managed by Interstate Hotels & Resorts on behalf of Baron House Hotel Limited.
When complete, the eight-storey building will boast impressive views over the city from its 160 guest bedrooms.
Facilities at the new hotel will include a bar and lounge, a gym and a work area for business travellers, all open 24 hours a day.
The final stages of building work on the hotel site will be completed in the next few weeks and the Hampton by Hilton Newcastle will open its doors to guests, including a number of competition winners who have won the chance to be amongst the first to stay there, from Friday, April 3.
The Hampton by Hilton Newcastle is the first Hampton property in Newcastle and the 14th in the UK.
