A NEWCASTLE-based entrepreneur is aiming to take his family-owned inn to the next level. Sanjay Chopra is transforming the Angel View Inn, in Low Eighton, to cater for the region’s conference and banqueting needs.

The hotel and restaurant, which has magnificent views of the Angel of the North, was bought by Mr Chopra’s family in 2005.

He took it over two years ago and is now aiming to make the best of its great transport links close to the A1 between Newcastle, Gateshead, Durham and Sunderland.

Mr Chopra’s background is in the financial sector before he moved across to the hospitality business.

He said: “When the opportunity to run the hotel came about it seemed like the perfect choice for me. It’s a venue that was in need of investment and development, and a place that could be greatly improved if we just apply the right focus.

“When I took on the business I knew I’d be able to give the time and dedication that was required to realise the potential in the hotel.

“The transition from hotel and restaurant to a charming luxury events venue is huge, and having that as a challenge was very important for me personally.”

The inn, which has a staff of 38, has recently been refurbished and a new menu is being introduced as Mr Chopra aims to boost the hotel’s AA ranking.

He said: “We’re in the process of developing a rosette standard dining menu for those who want to make their evening or event extra special, and our dedication to customer service is unwavering.

“We’ve got a unique combination of a quality venue in unique surroundings with customer care at the heart of all of our services, I think that’s something many of the bigger hotel operators have lost. We’re on track to achieving our AA three star hotel accreditation now, so we must be doing something right.”

The restaurant seats 100 people, with a capacity of 120 for events, he is hoping the Angel View will prove popular with both corporate and leisure clients looking for something different to city centre venues and isolated stately homes.

“We’re offering convenient boutique charm, the Angel View Inn is an alternative for the people who want the same quality they can find in exclusive venues without travelling miles away,” said Mr Chopra.
