A top North East finance professional is among just a handful of accountants to secure accreditation from a national medical finance body, in recognition of her expertise in the sub-sector.

Maxine Pott, a director at Newcastle-based RMT Accountants & Business Advisors, has been accredited by the Association of Independent Specialist Medical Accountants (AISMA), a national network of over 75 accountancy firms providing expert advice to medical practices, GPs and hospital doctors.

Mrs Pott leads RMT’s specialist medical division, RMT Healthcare, which has grown significantly in the last year.

The accreditation process required Mrs Pott, who is also a non-executive director of the Port of Tyne, to successfully complete an interview by a panel of members from AISMA’s national committee, which included industry experts from right across the UK.

Mrs Pott said: “The way in which medical sector finances are developing has put a greater emphasis on proactive, strategic business advice and support, especially within primary care, and our medical and healthcare division’s work has evolved to reflect the increasingly complex financial responsibilities facing all medical professionals.

“The AISMA accreditation provides due recognition of the long-term commitment that RMT has made to the medical sector, the investment we’re continuing to make in recruiting and training the highest calibre of staff, and the advantages that our team’s specialist knowledge and expertise can offer any professional working in the healthcare sector.

“We have an experienced and technically strong medical and healthcare team in place, and the expertise we offer is recognised as being amongst the very best available anywhere in the UK.”

The 20+ strong RMT Medical & Healthcare team works with medical professionals of every kind throughout the North East region, as well as serving clients in Scotland, Cumbria, the Midlands, Yorkshire and the London area, including hospital doctors, locums, consultants.

It currently acts for over 100 GP practices and over 1,000 medical professionals, and has also recently extended its operations into other areas of healthcare, including ophthalmology, dentistry, pharmacy and the care home sector, as well as animal healthcare and veterinary practices.

Established in 1954 as Robert Miller Tate & Co, RMT has grown to become one of the North East’s largest firms of independent accountants and business advisors.
