Medical testing kit makers Immunodiagnostic Systems Holdings plc (IDS) will welcome a new man at the top this April.

Patricio Lacalle has been appointed the new chief executive officer at the Boldon-headquartered business, which specialises in manual and automated specialist diagnostic testing kits for clinical and research markets.

He replaces Patrik Dahlen, who left the post on January 4, two months after announcing his intention to leave for “professional reasons”.

In a short note posted on the AIM market, directors at IDS said Mr Lacalle is currently the chief executive officer of Pulsion Medical Systems SE, a medical technology company with a leading market position in hemodynamic monitoring.

In the four years spent at Pulsion, Mr Lacalle and his team have grown the company internationally, while significantly expanding the operating margin.

Before Pulsion he held a number of management positions at Forbo Adhesives and HB Fuller.

On April 1, Burkhard Wittek, executive chairman, will revert to being non-executive chairman.

Mr Wittek said: “IDS is delighted to announce the appointment of Patricio as chief executive officer.

“We have worked together at Pulsion and were able to build a company setting standards of business quality in its field.

“Patricio brings to IDS a strong business sense, a bias for action and great team building and leadership skills. “Our leadership team at IDS is looking forward to working with Patricio and together achieving our ambitions for driving growth and profitability.”
