LEADING commercial law firm Muckle LLP has, once again, scooped a handful of awards at the North-east Insider Dealmakers Awards 2011.

The firm has again received top honours, building on its success in each of the four years that the region has acknowledged corporate finance excellence through the awards.

For the fourth year running, it has won the prestigious Corporate Law Firm of the Year award and also continued its great track record in the Corporate Lawyer of the Year award, a category which the people at Muckle have won every year.

Crag Swinhoe, a partner in the Corporate Finance Team, was announced as the winner at the ceremony at the Marriot Hotel Gosforth Park.

Craig has over ten years of corporate finance experience. He has worked on a number of high-profile transactions at Muckle including Insider Dealmakers' Deal of the Year 2009, the management buy-out of Quantum Specials Limited. More recently, Craig led the sale of Executel Limited, the acquisition of the Partridge clothing brand and the MBO of Northumbrian Fine Foods Limited, plus a variety of acquisitions for overseas clients. He also won Young Dealmaker of the Year in 2008.

Craig said: “It’s an honour to win the Corporate Lawyer of the Year, especially as the winner is chosen by the business community here in the region. I have been fortunate to work with so many great clients on some interesting and challenging deals over the years and to be part of the excellent team here.”

Muckle was shortlisted this time in the Deal of the Year category for the sale of North Eastern Tyre and Exhausts to Itochu Corporation of Japan. Phil Clare, associate solicitor, was shortlisted in the Young Dealmaker of the Year category. Phil, who joined the company as a trainee in 2003, won this award last year.

The winner of each category was selected following a confidential nomination process by members of the North-east business community - including banks, accountants, brokers and venture capitalists.

Stephen McNicol, managing partner, said: “We are thrilled to have been recognised by our peers in the business community once again for the work that we do and for the quality of our team at Muckle.

"To win awards in each of the last five years is a remarkable achievement. We have consistently delivered corporate deals over a sustained period, which requires dedication and strength in depth right across the business, not just in our corporate teams.

“A lot of people have worked very hard indeed. We feel proud of our achievements and this makes us even more resolute to continue providing the best advice and service we possibly can for our clients.”
