Tales of adventure are in store for those attending the North East Business Awards regional final, as Monty Halls takes to the stage as guest speaker.
A former Royal Marines officer who worked for Nelson Mandela on the peace process in South Africa, Monty left the services in 1996 to pursue a career in leading expeditions.
He has since circumnavigated the globe four times on various projects, leading multi-national teams in some of the most demanding environments on earth.
Monty has also established a television career since winning Channel 4’s Superhuman competition in 2004.
This has seen him present a number of series and documentaries, including Journey to the Centre of the Earth for Channel 4, Unchartered Territories for ITV and, most recently, his Great Escape series for BBC2.
In the first series, Monty lived in a tiny bothy on a beach on the west coast of Scotland for six months, following in the footsteps of his hero Gavin Maxwell.
In the second - Great Hebridean Escape - he embarked on an even greater challenge, living and working in the Outer Hebrides as a volunteer wildlife ranger.
Possibly a glutton for punishment or possibly just hugely passionate about the great outdoors, he is now filming the third series in Ireland.
But on Thursday, the gathered guests at Hardwick Hall will be lucky enough to hear about all of his adventures before the top prizes are handed out to the worthy winners.
