Mixed picture for County Durham firm Filtronic

Filtronic, with centres in County Durham, has announced an operating profit of £3.2m for its wireless business and a loss of £1.1m for broadband

Filtronic, designer and manufacturer of microwave electronic products, and with a presence in County Durham, has announced a fall in revenues in the second half of last year of £3.5m to £20.1m compared with £23.6m in the previous six months.

This includes an operating profit of £3.2m for the wireless business and a loss of £1.1m for the broadband business based in Newton Aycliffe and Sedgefield.

Management blamed this drop on the transition to new products and said in a statement: “Broadband continues to transition from legacy to new products and had a disappointing first half, with sales of £3.6m being in line with H” 2013 but down 19% versus last year’s comparable period.

E Band transceivers are now transitioning to volume production, however the first-half build-up in the programmes was slower than expected due to temporary end-market delays.”
