DARLINGTON business Mech-Tool Engineering Ltd is changing its name to MTE Ltd to reflect its more diverse business base.

The fire, blast and radiant heat protection products manufacturer, which operates worldwide, has a new identity after trading for 40 years.

Working within the oil, gas and renewable energy markets, MTE has its head office in Darlington, a sales support operation in Aberdeen, and agents in Texas, Korea and Malaysia.

The company has 175 staff working across four business units in the North East - fire and blast wall solutions; heat shield solutions; modular solutions for fire and blast protection and new design consultancy.

Matthew Camp, business manager for MTE Ltd, said: “Following a very successful year, we now need to continue to build and the image of a toolmaker is no longer relevant.

“Over the last four decades, the company has grown and the old name, while part of our heritage, does not reflect the growing range of services we now offer.

“Our new image better fits the company’s position as a solid supply chain organisation, ready to do global business. MTE Ltd is all about delivering these services to high levels of quality and the newly branded business units reflect that ethos, highlighting what we offer, either as individual, standalone offerings or as parts of a wider, combined package.”

The company reported a £16m turnover this year, with profits of £600,000.
