A SMALL County Durham farm shop run by a husband and wife team has scored 16 out of 16 in a prestigious industry awards.

A SMALL County Durham farm shop run by a husband and wife team has scored 16 out of 16 in a prestigious industry awards.

Knitsley Farm Shop near Consett took 16 of its own home-produced pork products to a roadshow in Harrogate last week organised by the British Pig Executive, which promotes the pork industry.

The entries took eight gold awards, seven silver awards and one bronze award.

Rachael Jewson, who runs the on-farm butchery shop and cafe with husband Edward, said: “We are justifiably very proud of our butcher team.

“We are a local business which has grown from five staff on opening in November 2008 through to 22 full-time staff and 16 part- time/casual staff.

“We have won quite a few awards including Best New Farm Shop in a national competition, and we are regional finalists in the Countryside Alliance Local Food Award which will be judged in February; also we are national finalists for Farma’s awards in the Best Own and Local Retailer award.”
