CORUS has strengthened its team with the appointment of Gill Thornton, left, as steelmaking technical manager at Teesside Cast Products. Gill joined what was then British Steel in 1986 as a graduate in materials science and has since gained much experience working in different parts of the group.

MICHAEL Jones of Stockton-based Darchem Engineering has been awarded the region’s Chartered Manager of the Year by the Chartered Management Institute.
