Now Gateshead's Holly Construction has clinched a £100,000 refurbishment contract to make improvements at the East End Pool in Hadrian Square, Byker, Newcastle.

The project - designed and managed by Newcastle City Council's in-house design team City Design - involves the refurbishment of the fitness suite, sauna and steam room.

Holly Construction managing director Phil Warren said: "We've developed a strong reputation in the leisure sector, especially following on from the success of the Masonic Hall at Beamish Museum, a project of which we are extremely proud.

"We're delighted to work with the City of Newcastle again following our successes with fitness suites at Denton Pool and Gosforth Pool. This project at East End Pool will also be fantastic, providing the local community with upgraded facilities in time for Christmas."

East End Pool was opened in September 2000 and houses two swimming pools, a sauna, fitness suite, library and café. Holly Construction has completed more than £1,000,000 of work in the leisure sector in the last 12 months, including Newcastle's Laing Art Gallery and Denton Pool.
