A new Hilton Hotel in Newcastle has opened a month ahead of schedule.
The multi-million pound 160-room Hampton by Hilton complex has been built opposite Newcastle Central Station, which has itself undergone a significant makeover, and bookings have already been made by visitors.
Work on the hotel, based in eight-storey Baron House, was carried out by Killingworth-based Metnor Construction, which was also involved in the Sleeperz Hotel development on Westgate Road, for which it won the prestigious RIBA Design award, the Hotel du Vin on Byker Road and Matfen Hall.
The eight-storey building boasts impressive views over the city from its guest bedrooms and facilities include a bar and lounge, a gym and a work area for business travellers, all open 24 hours a day.
The hotel, which is managed by Interstate Hotels and Resorts on behalf of Baron House Hotel Limited, is the first Hampton by Hilton property in Newcastle and joins more than 30 Hampton by Hilton trading or under development hotels in the United Kingdom.
“Newcastle is renowned for its entertainment industry, bringing thousands of people to the city every year. We are located within a walking distance from the biggest attractions, such as Metro Arena, Sage Gateshead and Newcastle United Football Club’s St James’ Park,” said general manager Paolo Franchi.
“To be in line with that cheerful atmosphere, the hotel staff and I are bringing the Hamptonality spirit to Newcastle.”
Phil Cordell, global head, focused service and Hampton brand management, Hilton Worldwide, added: “The United Kingdom is the fastest growing market for the Hampton by Hilton brand in Europe. We have seen strong growth in the region following increasing demand from travellers for high quality affordable accommodation whatever country they visit.”
