Gordon Brown Law Firm, which has offices in Newcastle and Chester-le-Street, has been named 360 Legal Group Member of the Year.

The title, announced at 360’s annual dinner, highlights the practice as one that is adapting and responding to the fast-changing conditions facing the legal profession within a difficult economic climate.

The Bristol-based 360 Legal Group helps law firms across the UK manage and market their practices more successfully as businesses.

Gordon Brown Law Firm was nominated by consultants who praised the way in which it had pursued a clear strategy during the year.

The company has undergone huge changes in the last 12 months, starting afresh with a completely new marketing and sales training programme and linking remuneration to performance and accountability.

It has grown significantly, its conveyancing volumes rising by 500% since 2006 after investing in and training its staff to use its Intelliworks case management system. Gordon Brown Law Firm has also separated out its volume residential conveyancing department and probate office into a new Chester-Le-Street office, while retaining its Newcastle site as its commercial and private client base.

Kathryn Taylor, managing partner at Gordon Brown Law Firm, said: “I was both surprised and delighted to have been nominated for and to receive this award. My guiding principle over the last year has been that law firms like most other businesses cannot afford to stand still in the hope that work will flow towards them. I have constantly sought new ways of obtaining instructions and growing our firm in spite of challenging and turbulent times. I am flattered that 360 Legal Group has seen what we are trying to do and has chosen to recognise it in this way.”
