Global backing for Middlesbrough-based Thap

A GLOBAL internet company has invested in Middlesbrough-based web development company Thap.

A GLOBAL internet company has invested in Middlesbrough-based web development company Thap.

And making it a double win for Thap’s Tom Howsam, local businessman and entrepreneur Andy Preston has also invested to boost the firm’s standing even further – raising the total capital invested in Thap to £140,000.

As well as asking Thap to look at its development and innovation, Dubai-based Clicksco has also given it ongoing technical work which has been taken away from current providers in Russia and America. The contract has initially created six new jobs at Thap’s office in Middlesbrough’s Digital City HQ, Boho One.

Paul Callaghan of DCB Ventures, also based in Boho One, who brokered the deal, said: “We made links with Clicksco during a business trip we organised to Dubai and then arranged for them to visit Middlesbrough.

“We were able to link up Clicksco and Thap with outstanding results. This is an example of us doing what we do promoting Tees Valley businesses and bringing in investment into those businesses.”

Investor Andy Preston, of Green Lane Capital, said: “I’ve invested £70,000 because Tom is a very talented and motivated professional with a very sought-after range of skills.”

Tom, 30, of Stockton, who is chief executive of Thap, is delighted with the confidence shown by both investments.

“We want to fuel creativity here and have a culture of innovation at Thap. We work a four day week and on the fifth day people are encouraged to innovate in their personal lives – whether that’s by building their own apps, working for charities – or anything productive and positive.

“We will be looking at mobile technology such as voice activation, smart TV and new apps. It’s great to have the opportunity to do work like this,” said Tom.

Thap now employs nine people and is looking for both experienced and graduate staff to fulfil its new contract.

Clicksco specialises in monetising internet usage and has more than 200 websites across a range of sectors attracting 15 million users and tens of millions of hits per month and is Yahoo’s number one partner in Europe.
