A TYNESIDE company which counts Topshop tycoon Sir Philip Green and Premier League footballers among its celebrity customers plans a £50,000 investment that will increase its workforce.
Solarfold, which makes and fits bespoke sliding and folding aluminium door systems, is investing in new machinery to speed up production.
The firm will also open a new showroom in July at its premises on Gateshead Quays, and the expansion will see the family-run business take on around four new staff.
Solarfold was set up four years ago by Jonathan Harvey, who has more than 20 years’ experience in the glass and glazing industry, and his wife Justine, to offer home- owners a modern alternative to conservatories and patio doors.
It recently installed folding doors at the luxury St Tropez home of Sir Philip Green and has worked on the mansions of several top footballers.
Harvey said: “As homeowners we are becoming more adventurous with our home improvements and extensions as a plethora of TV programmes have had a powerful influence on the style of houses.
“People are putting in full glass facades to give their homes a modern design and it is now a very appealing look.
“We are steadily building up and are getting a lot of repeat clients and builders coming to us. We have worked on projects all over the UK and abroad.
“As a result we are now in a position to invest in new machinery which will speed up production and we are developing a new showroom so people can see the whole range of products.
“We are taking on extra staff as part of the expansion which is very encouraging in the current economic climate.
“We have a few celebrity clients and some of the houses we’ve been working on sell for around £5m. We do everything from £3,000 bi-folding doors in a semi-detached to £200,000 worth of windows in a luxury apartment development.”
