Kevin is relocating to the region from the Midlands to take on the role of head of automotive and logistics at the £5.5m ACE based at Team Valley, Gateshead.
He said: “This is a fantastic opportunity as Gateshead College has some of the best facilities in the UK for automotive courses. I am looking forward to building upon the success of the ACE and further enhancing the automotive and logistics courses available. I will also continue working closely with Nissan and in developing additional constructive partnerships with local businesses.”
The ACE is recognised as a Centre of Vocational Excellence (CoVE) for both automotive and logistics.
Kevin, 41, takes on the responsibility of overseeing all automotive and logistics courses at Gateshead College, which includes motorcycle, light and heavy goods vehicles and cars. Prior to his move to Gateshead, Kevin, 41, was employed at City College Birmingham where he was head of automotive for seven years. He also worked at South Birmingham College as head of work-based learning and prior to that he was employed in training and development in the private sector. Mick Brophy, assistant principal in skills and employer engagement, said: “We are delighted to welcome Kevin to the college, with his background and experience he is certainly the best man for the job.”
Kevin has already added a new qualification to the courses available at the college, the BTEC First Diploma in Motor Sports.
