Free insulation saves hundreds of pounds in bills

THERE are a number of measures you can take around your home to make it more energy efficient and reduce your carbon emissions.

THERE are a number of measures you can take around your home to make it more energy efficient and reduce your carbon emissions.

Warmzone is a not-for-profit organisation working to reduce fuel poverty in Newcastle and Gateshead by identifying, assessing and advising those who are entitled to free insulation in their homes or need benefits advice.

Householders can take advantage of free loft and cavity wall insulation, benefits advice checks and energy efficiency advice. This helps increase householders’ incomes while reducing their fuel bills and harmful emissions.

There are thousands of homes losing vast amounts of heat through their walls, windows, floors or roofs because of poor insulation.

Up to 25% of a home’s warmth can be lost through the roof and 35% through the walls if they are not properly insulated.

By insulating your roof and installing cavity wall insulation you will be able to turn down your heating and have it on for less time each day, thus cutting your carbon emissions drastically and saving hundreds of pounds in fuel bills.

In only six months, Gateshead Warmzone alone has helped unlock more than £500,000 in unclaimed benefits for its residents.

To find out what benefits you may be entitled to and how you can help cut your carbon emissions with Warmzone, log onto www.warmzones.co.uk. Newcastle Warm Zone is a partnership of Scottish Power, National Grid, Newcastle City Council and Your Homes Newcastle.
