Experienced finance professional Chris Parker has joined the team at NEL Fund Managers.
The Middlesbrough-born Newcastle University graduate, who has worked with various top firms, comes to the regional fund management company at a time of continuing high demand for investments from the Finance for Business North East Growth Fund.
His role entails acting as the first port of call for business managers and advisors looking for investment, assessing the commercial viability of business plans and working closely with investees as their applications progress.
He will also be taking a particular interest in identifying and working with companies in the south of the region that could benefit commercially from accessing development capital.
NEL has so far invested more than £12m in businesses right across the North East since the Growth Fund’s launch in spring 2010. It is now able to invest up to a ceiling of £750,000 in any given deal.
Parker, whose previous employment includes stretches with Tait Walker, KPMG, Barclays Bank, and Teesside steel manufacturer SSI, said: “NEL has a deserved reputation in the market as being a strong and very active supporter of businesses right across the region, and working within a small team provides exactly the type of flexibility and opportunities to take the initiative that I was looking for.
“I’m enjoying getting out and meeting business people from a wide variety of industries, and am learning a lot through my discussions with them.”
