Extended deadline to get the sums right

Accountants have another fortnight to enter the regionwide competition to find the best in the profession.

Accountants have another fortnight to enter the regionwide competition to find the best in the profession.

Entry for the North-East Accountancy Awards has now been extended to April 13 to give competitors more time to polish up their submissions at what can be a busy time of the year for many.

Now endorsed by ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA and the ICAEW, and backed by The Journal, the awards is the first of its kind outside London.

This celebration of the sector in the region is being sponsored by Newcastle-based recruitment company Nigel Wright and organised by Benchmark Communications and the final will take place on June 14 at Gosforth Marriott Hotel, Newcastle. Mr Wright himself will judge three of the 12 awards.

Mark Simpson, head of the North- East division at Nigel Wright, said: "We've been working with companies throughout the region for over 18 years so it is an excellent opportunity for us to recognise the hard work and achievement of finance teams in these businesses."

Joining Nigel on the judging panel is Duncan Bannatyne - founder of a Darlington leisure and hotel group and star of the BBC's Dragon's Den - One NorthEast chairman Margaret Fay and Journal business editor Iain Laing.
