BASED in Billingham, Cambridge Research Biochemicals (CRB) is rapidly expanding and fast making a reputation for itself on the global stage as a new-era industry.

Its work is focused on the laboratory-scale manufacture of peptides and antibodies for use in pharmaceutical and biotechnology research. They produce scientific detectives’ research tools, fostering the understanding of the interaction of proteins in diseased states, whether cancer, Alzheimer’s or cardio-vascular.

"Our expertise has placed us in a position to develop the business and we see plenty of opportunities in the years to come, whilst remaining based in the North East. We see life sciences as a major new economic market," says commercial director Emily Humphrys.

"Life sciences is an incredibly exciting field to work in and over the past two years we have been able to recruit high calibre people from the North East. When we first set up the company our people came from other areas of the UK. Now they’re coming from Newcastle and Durham Universities where we have established good networks.

"Significant investment is being in the region and particularly in Tees Valley to help build upon and accelerate projects which will underpin the future economy of the region. Our aim is to be part of a small set of specialist North East companies that can make a genuine difference within the science sector across the world."
