FORMER Arriva chief executive Bob Davies has been chosen as the next chairman of national social housing provider Home Group.

The man who led the Sunderland transport giant from 1998 to 2007 and oversaw a period of massive growth will replace Rod Bennion to join the Newcastle-based organisation in July.

Davies said: “I am hugely excited by the prospect of working with a national organisation that makes a positive difference to the lives of more than 120,000 people a year.

“I am impressed with the passion and drive of the executive team at Home Group who are deeply committed to fulfilling the organisation’s mission. These are interesting and challenging times for the social housing sector and I will seek to bring my experience from the corporate world alongside that of other board members to support the executive team to ensure Home Group thrives in the future.”

Davies, who has also been chairman of Biffa, is currently senior non-executive director of Barratt Developments plc and chairman of Euroports Holdings Sarl. He has been chairman of the Board of Governors at the University of Sunderland and also served on the boards of British Energy Plc and Northern Rock Asset Management.
