Electronic reporting works for UK cattle farmers

THE highest ever proportion of cattle movement data was reported online or by phone in December.

THE highest ever proportion of cattle movement data was reported online or by phone in December.

The Rural Payments Agency (RPA) said that 95% of movements were reported using those methods rather than the traditional paper-based reporting system. The RPA, which said that cattle keepers have always been on the vanguard of using electronic services, also reported an increase in farmers using online and phone services to notify it about cattle births and deaths.

Justin Chamberlain, customer director, said: “Our electronic services are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week so farmers can report births, movements and deaths at a time that works for them. We’re encouraging everyone to try our online service to apply for their Single Payment Scheme this year too. Using SPS Online affords you more time to spend on your business because it helps you get it right first time. You get an instant receipt which gives you peace of mind that your application has been received and passed the initial checks. All your farm’s details are securely saved for next year, and you can track your claim.”
