French energy firm EDF have acquired the Barmoor wind farm project near Berwick from US firm Duke Energy and Norwegian outfit Statkaft UK Ltd.
The site, between the villages of Ford and Lowick, is yet to be developed, but once operational is expected to have a capacity of 12mw - enough electricity to provide for 6,400 homes a year.
Construction on the site will begin as soon as possible, EDF said.
Chief executive Christian Egal added: “We have ambitious plans to continue to grow our portfolio of onshore wind farms, through our own development activities and through acquisitions. This deal is consistent with that ambition and our ability to deliver new projects.”
