One of the UK’s most senior voices in design visited the North East this week to launch a programme that helps companies reap the rewards of investment in his field of expertise.

John Mathers, chief executive of the Design Council, visited gas sensor company Analox, in Stokesley, and estate agents Letslivehere, in Newcastle, both of which have used strong design to boost their products and services. The visit marked the North East launch of the Design Council’s Design Leadership Programme, which aims to help SMEs harness the power of design to increase turnover.

Mathers said: “Design, used strategically, can help businesses meet their growth goals and ambitions.

“Across the North East, we see great examples of this, but there are also many companies which would benefit hugely from the guidance we at the Design Council and our associates can bring and the Design Leadership Programme can help us to do this.”
