A STALWART of the dairy industry will be remembered with an award at this year’s sector Expo in March.

The Borderway UK Dairy Expo, now in its second year, will present the John Dennison Achievement Award to the dairy cattle breeder or exhibitor judged to be a high achiever and an exemplary role model.

Judges will be looking for the best combination of ability, sportsmanship, integrity and character.

John Dennison who farmed at Scales Farm in Ulverston was the breeder of the Denmire Holstein Herd on the family’s 1,000 acre family farm.

Following his death last year, his family decided to present the award to remember his lifelong contribution to dairy farming, pedigree breeding, judging and showing. He was also a strong promoter of the Holstein breed and encouraged the younger generation of Holstein breeders.

Glynn Lucas, of Dairy Expo organisers Harrison & Hetherington, said: “John Dennison’s legacy will be remembered and admired for a very long time.

“His warmth and friendliness, his mischievous smile and modesty combined with his deep seated skills as a dairy farmer and breeder and the support and encouragement he gave to the next generation are inspirational.”

Anyone who wants to make a nomination for the award should send a brief biography on their nominee to the John Dennison Achievement Award, c/o Glyn Lucas, Harrison & Hetherington Ltd., Borderway Mart, Rosehill, Carlisle CA1 2RS, by February 1.

The winner will be announced and presented with their award at the Borderway UK Dairy Expo on March 9.
