Newcastle homelessness charity The Cyrenians has become a national organisation, rebranding and taking on a new name to mark the expansion.

Changing Lives, as it is now known, provides help to the homeless, those recovering from addictions and other vulnerable people.

The charity now has an annual turnover approaching £12m.

It needs to raise over £3m annually through charitable giving alone.

At its recent AGM and conference, chief executive Stephen Bell OBE, said: “We have entered 2014 optimistically but without complacency about the difficulties that remain ahead of us.

“The ongoing austerity measures, including cuts to local budgets, the impact of welfare reform and the fragile economic recovery mean that our responsibilities towards the people and communities we support has never been greater.”
