Anticipation is building ahead of the launch of this year’s North East Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) Awards.
The 2015 awards will celebrate the best of North East recruitment and training at a ceremony at Hilton Newcastle Gateshead on June 11.
Last year’s event attracted more than 400 guests who gathered to find out which companies and individuals had scooped the hotly-contested categories.
The event is run in association with Newcastle-based Nigel Wright Recruitment and over the next few months The Journal will look at the individual categories which span the management, HR and training areas.
In the past winners from large, well-established organisations, up-and-coming SMEs, charities and the public sector have scooped trophies at the big event.
This year’s entries will be sifted by a panel of judges from across industry sectors, before the winners are revealed in June.
To coincide with the awards, the CIPD is also sponsoring the Apprenticeship category at the grand final of The Journal’s Business Awards on April 23, which will see three regional heats across the North East.
In light of the upcoming awards, the CIPD nationally has launched an initiative to link HR and development professionals with young people as part of the Steps Ahead programme.
Elouise Leonard Cross, the chair of the CIPD in the North East, said: “Mentors have spoken about the positive returns personally and the benefit of the programme, enabling them to use their skills and give something back – opportunity to open doors and give a young person help to get the first foot on a ladder.
“We are currently recruiting more mentors as demand is increasing as the Jobcentre and young people are seeing the benefit from this completely free service.”
