THROUGHOUT the recent economic turmoil the region’s business community has been able to rely on the continued support and guidance of one organisation, the North East Chamber of Commerce.

Indeed for nearly 200 years NECC has existed to champion the region's businesses with a network which has sustained trading links in the North East, the UK and across the world.

Today, the North East Chamber of Commerce represents over 4,000 businesses across the North East which employ a third of the region's workforce, making it one of the largest Chambers of Commerce in the country. Thanks to the strength of its network, NECC remains the only, truly regional business membership organisation in the North East.

Representing all businesses across all industries and sectors, from start-ups to established businesses, from sole traders to plcs, NECC is the region's most inclusive and therefore the most representative business membership organisation. It is through its range of services that it is able to support businesses of all sizes.

Offering training and apprenticeships, numerous networking opportunities across the region, unrivalled legal support services and vital business information, NECC is able to help its members win more business, become better businesses and enjoy better conditions for business.

NECC is also one of the region's leading business support organisation for international trade and exporting.

It supports over 40% of the North East's exporters and helps its members trade overseas through its award-winning international trade services. It is also the only Civil Aviation Authority approved training provider based in the region.

In the first six months of 2011, NECC has processed paperwork for goods totalling a value of £1.5bn to the UK economy, helping to maintain the North East's reputation as the leading region for export in the UK.

NECC member Hart Door Systems has made significant developments into new foreign markets in recent years, such as the Middle East, with help from NECC's international trade team. Alan Richardson, Hart Doors said: “NECC has been extremely supportive as our export work has grown.”

NECC is also one of the leading Ofsted accredited training providers in the region delivering a wide range of quality training services; from apprenticeships to one-day courses and foundation degrees.

Approximately 700 employers are currently working with NECC on developing their workforce through NECC's flagship apprenticeship programmes. InDental, a group of dental practices is helping several young people get their teeth into new careers with the help of NECC.

Sue Mulholland, of InDental, said: “NECC's training team have been terrific for our apprentices. The standard of support and hands-on service we receive from NECC has been terrific and a vital part of their successful development.”
