The Carlisle-based agriculture, food and engineering group, Carr’s, has appointed a new non-executive director.

John Worby will become chairman of the audit committee from April 1, replacing Robert Heygate, and Senior Independent Director from May 1, replacing Alistair Wannop.

Both Mr Heygate and Mr Wannop, however, will continue as non-executive directors of the company.

Mr Worby has held a number of senior positions within FTSE 250 companies.

A chartered accountant and a member of the Financial Reporting Review Panel, he is currently a Non-Executive Director of Fidessa plc, and Senior Independent Director at Connect Group plc.

Previously, he was finance director of Genus plc, a role from which he retired in 2013, and a non-executive Director of Cranswick plc for nine years until July 2014.

Carr’s chairman Chris Holmes said: “I am delighted to welcome John to the Board of Carr’s.

“John’s strong financial background, coupled with his extensive sector experience, will prove invaluable to Carr’s as we seek opportunities to grow the Group both in the UK and internationally.”
