Call Connection plans to double North East headcount

Following a successful six months in Newcastle, growing Call Connection is hosting an official launch event

The UK's foremost telephone lead generation company for the insurance sector is hoping to double its staff numbers in Newcastle, just six months after opening an office in the city.

Since its establishment in January, Call Connection’s North East contact centre has handled more than 500,000 calls and created 51 new jobs,

Ten more staff are set to join the firm in July, and managing director Graeme Kalbraier believes headcount at the Quayside site could reach 100 by the end of 2014.

Following a strong half-year, Call Connection is now set to host an official launch ceremony this month, led by special guest, Paralympic gold medallist David Weir.

It is hoped that both supporters of the business and local dignitaries will attend.

Kalbraier said: “The launch event is an opportunity to step back and reflect on our success to date.

“We’ve had a fantastic six months here in Newcastle. Initially we had 6,000 applications for the first 50 jobs – an amazing response from jobseekers in the North East.“We have a staff capacity of 110 and recruitment after July will depend on business development, but due to demand for our services rapidly increasing, we’re in the best possible position to expand our operation further here.

“I am delighted to be able to take on even more new staff who will make a valuable contribution to the continued success of the business.

“I would estimate that we will look to end the year with about 100 staff in place in Newcastle.”Founded in 2003, Call Connection is the UK’s largest insurance lead generation business, providing telephone and online leads to many of the UK’s top insurance providers.

Working with over 100 brokers and insurers, it assists over 100,000 insurance shoppers each week, as well as providing specialist contact centre services such as sales fulfilment, disaster recovery and call overflow solutions to a growing number of insurance partners.

The business, which has twice been named a Sunday Times Top 100 company and which holds the prestigious Investors in People Silver Standard Award, now has 250 full-time staff across its two contact centres in Ipswich and Newcastle, the latter of which was the result of an investment of £1m in more than 6,500 sq ft of prime office space.The company’s most recent accounts - covering the year ended December 31, 2012 - record pre-tax profits of £1.15m, compared to £140,638 previous year.

Revenues likewise rose from £15.4m to £16.7m.

A report accompanying the results said hard work by senior management in changing the firm’s business model and diversifying its risk profile had paid off.

Further improved turnover and profitability was expected for 2013.

Kalbraier added: “The contact centre underlines our investment in Newcastle as well as our determination to keep Call Connection at the forefront of the general insurance industry.

“The launch event demonstrates our continued commitment to boost employment opportunities for talented people across the region.”
