The Land Securities-owned Gate leisure venue in Newcastle has worked with a range of art organisations over the last 18 months which has resulted in it becoming a member of The Sponsors Club for Arts & Business.

Projects include a range of exhibitions for Musa Fine Art, the Northern Graduates exhibition with the New Academy Gallery, the artwork Ellipses Eclipses outside The Gate, and the UK Land Securities' exhibition In The Land of Illustrations.

In The Land of Illustrations, supported by the Prince of Wales Arts & Kids Foundation, was a project Land Securities rolled out throughout the UK, including at The Gate. It involved teachers from Beech Hill Primary School and Stocksfield Avenue Primary School in Newcastle and local artist Clare Armstrong assisting the children in illustrating the region through their art.

Tracy Hulme, centre manager at The Gate, who visited the art classes in school, said: "It was excellent to see the children all taking such a keen interest in the project and in their home region. It was great for us to be involved with In The Land of Illustrations and we are looking forward to getting involved with many more worthwhile projects."
