AWARD winning products and a major investment in the business are ensuring growth for Consett-based Anross Ltd.
The company, which supplies equipment for use in the construction, plant hire, quarrying and waste handling industries, recently won the innovation award at the Journal’s Durham & Wearside Business Awards for its Crusha bucket, pictured.
This unique product can be attached to an existing excavator, enabling it to crush up concrete, bricks and blocks left over from excavation, which would otherwise go to landfill. By re-using the materials as aggregates, companies can enhance their green credentials and save money on landfill tax.
MD Rod Leyland said: “It’s a pioneering product that’s aimed at small building and demolition sites, a sector that wasn’t being addressed before.”
The Journal award isn’t the firm’s first though. It previously won best new product/service in 2000 for its “Segregator” bucket.
While the Crusha bucket has only been on the market for 15 months, orders have been strong from all over the UK and the firm hopes to launch the next generation Crusha this Summer, which should be twice as efficient.
Said Mr Leyland: “While the majority of our customers are end users, we have also sold to JCB dealerships and we’re in talks with main dealers and manufacturers who want to badge the product as their own.”
With its 30th anniversary coming up next year, Anross Ltd is looking to consolidate its position at the forefront of the industry. Mr Leyland plans to take on a new apprentice to join the existing 10 employees and the firm has just invested nearly £100k installing a plasma profile burner.
“The construction industry has been particularly badly affected by the downturn,” said Mr Leyland. “But because we’ve focused away from the standard digger buckets and concentrated on specialised equipment, we haven’t been feeling it as badly.”
