Gateshead-based cooking and heating equipment retailer Walter Dix & Co has invested £100,000 on doubling the size of its premises, after marking 125 years in business.

The firm, which is an AGA specialist, is now displaying twice as many kitchen appliances as before at its Team Valley base.

Following the refurbishment, the company held a grand re-opening ceremony, featuring a ribbon cutting by William McGrath, chief executive of AGA Rangemaster.

Guests were greeted with a champagne reception and given the opportunity to browse the new layout before watching cookery demonstrations from AGA.

They were also given goody bags and entered into a free 125th birthday prize draw, which saw one winner walk away with a £250 AGA Cookshop voucher.

Managing director Charles Dix said: “For 125 years, we have continued to grow from strength to strength and it’s truly humbling to see that the North East has continued to support us over the past century and a quarter.”

Walter Dix and Co’s premises feature a dedicated area where regular demonstrations are held on both AGA and conventional range cookers.

Other brands at the showroom include Lacanche, Britannia and Falcon.

The company is currently supporting regional children’s charity Dreamflight and has launched a month-long raffle to be drawn at the showroom on Monday, March 31.
