NORTH EAST accountancy practice Tait Walker is calling on the Government to beef up its commitment to SME manufacturing and engineering businesses.

The firm recently hosted a round table event to help the sector compete more effectively in the global economy. It brought together business leaders from 14 small to medium-sized manufacturing and engineering firms, who spoke up for manufacturers.

Ebac Group managing director Pamela Petty said: “At Ebac, we feel particularly strongly about changing the view of manufacturing within the education system and society.

“The manufacturing and engineering sector as a whole requires brand development and long-term investment to ensure it is seen as an attractive career option and an important part of the UK’s economic and social future.”

Tait Walker’s tax partner Alastair Wilson said: “Tait Walker were in the unique position of driving what has proved to be a highly-informative event from which it became clear the UK’s SME manufacturing and engineering businesses are fired up and ready for the Government to show some dedicated support and guidance for the industry.

He concludes: “Off the back of the round table’s report findings, Tait Walker has already begun contacting North East MPs in a bid to garner maximum support for the region’s SMEs within the sector, to ensure that businesses are more effectively supported by Government.”
