The Oxford-based company, which has an office on the Quayside and employs around 1,000 people worldwide, is adding 20 posts in the UK over the next year.

The North East office is currently developing a waste management strategy on the island of St Helena in the mid-Atlantic, working with the National Grid for the North West Coast Connections Project and consulting on opencast mining projects in the UK.

Its local clients include Balfour Beatty, Sir Robert McAlpine, Premier Waste Management, SITA, Northumbria University, Durham University and Durham County Council.

It specialises in the energy and mining sectors and advises the private sector waste management industry in the UK and carries out planning and environmental impact assessment projects for major commercial developers.

SLR’s Newcastle office manager, Will Higson, said: “Our recruitment approach for our Newcastle office is based on ensuring we continue to meet the evolving needs of the market. So, despite the on-going challenges of the economy, we are investing to enhance our offering and strategic hires remain an important part of this plan.”
