Six Limousin bulls and one Simmental bull have been exported to the Czech Republic by e-commerce website Semenstore.

Following an initial inquiry to the company, visitors from the Czech Republic – an AI company representative, a manager of a 2,000-head beef feedlot, a commercial beef producer and a Limousin pedigree breeder – toured over six UK farms and pedigree herds last August.

The prospective purchasers paid particular attention to feet and legs as well as length and width in the tops.

Having looked at progeny of Semenstore sires, six bulls were selected to suit the various markets back in the Czech Republic.

The Limousin bulls included in the order are Wilodge Cerberus (a second order to the Czech Republic), Plumtree Deus, Plumtree Fantastic and Haltcliffe Underwriter as well as two French-bred bulls Bolide and Vagabond. The Irish-bred Simmental bull, Clonagh Tiger Gallant, completed the picture.

Semenstore’s livestock and genetics specialist Steve Jones said: “This is another good order for the UK pedigree sector.

“Europe and indeed worldwide are actively seeking to buy into the best of UK bovine genetics. Calving ease, growth, muscle and mobility are just some of the traits that they are looking for.”

This latest order follows hard on the heels of a shipment of semen from five Limousin bulls to Australia at the tail-end of 2013.

Steve Jones has also recently accompanied two further groups in organised tours who were looking to invest in British genetics.

These were a 50-strong party of Danish Limousin breeders attending Carlisle’s October bull sales and a group of Austrian beef producers who attended the Stirling bull sales.

A party of 50 German Limousin breeders has already confirmed a trip for June this year when they will combine herd visits with attendance at the Royal Highland Show.

Since its launch in 2009, Semenstore has exported to five continents and more than 50 countries.
